Corinne George’s compassion benefits cancer patients and nursing students

Corinne J. Whillock George worked at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Library for over two decades, from 1956 to 1980. Library staff and alumnae remembered her kindness and hospitality; frequently bringing cobblers and baked goods for everyone to share. She maintained that tradition when she moved to Shepherd’s Cove retirement homes, taking soup and cornbread to fellow residents when they were ill.

When Corinne passed away last year at the age of 95 her legacy of thoughtful compassion continued, leaving several estate gifts to benefit the students and patients of UAMS.

Corinne’s dedication to her life’s work resulted in a gift to the UAMS library to assist medical, nursing, pharmacy, public health and allied health students in their training. A charitable gift annuity, which Corinne funded during her lifetime, provided her an income stream over the years. At her passing, the remaining funds were gifted to the library.

Through her careful planning, Corinne remembered both cancer patients and nursing students with bequests made within her will. “We are so grateful when our alumni, faculty or friends remember our school with an estate gift,” said Dr. Lorraine Frazier, Dean of the UAMS College of Nursing. “This gift will help us further our mission to provide exemplary and comprehensive nursing education, research and service to UAMS, the nursing profession and society.”
